Customer Question

I have a '95 XJS and I'm locked out. The key turns but nothing happens.
JA: Is the car in "Park" or "Neutral?" Do you know if your car has a "wheel lock" feature?
Customer: In Park. I assume it has the wheel lock feature but have never really noticed.
JA: Are you fixing your XJ-S yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: sprayed wd40 into the lock to maybe free it up .. to no effect. Is there an emergency door release in the trunk?
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Battery is charged - trunk lights come on when I open trunk.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If there is no resistance when turning the key then either the latch has failed, lock cylinder has failed or the linkage between the two is no longer in place. The door panel is going to need to be removed to inspect the linkage and see what is going on. The linkage may just be off due to clip failure.

If you don't have a functional key fob then the best way to get into the vehicle will be to use a lockout kit such as this one, which uses an inflatable bag and wedge to move a door or window away from the frame far enough to insert a rod and open the door.
