I have a 98 Jaguar Vanden plas. The trunk will only open

Customer Question

I have a 98 Jaguar Vanden plas. The trunk will only open with the key. Depressing the button on the trunk or using the fob or dash release will not open the trunk. But, once when the security alarm went off, all systems worked to open the trunk. How do I activate the security alarm again? Thank you.
JA: Have you checked the fob's battery?
Customer: Fob works well to open the doors and lock the doors.
JA: Are you fixing your Vanden Plas yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Jaguar dealer had to break into my trunk last month as neither the buttons nor the key would open the trunk. They replaced the hardware and relay.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Nothing else. Thank you.

I think we may have a problem with the latch or wiring in the trunk. I think the alarm going off could have just be a coincidence. Open the trunk with the key and see if the trunk lights come on. Also see if the license plate lights come on. If we lost lighting as well then we most likely have some broken wires in the trunk harness where is goes on the right hand side trunk hinge arm. Let me know.
