1- Definitely Scan it, you can still retrieve codes from it if the exist , if the car cranks but want start now , you want be able to know if the light is on since it is not running but u can still read it, it depends if you have a small generic scanner or a full blow dealer type where you can communicate with all vehicle module, those small ones can only read engine module codes , not anti - theft or bcm body control module etc...
2-is there a red security light flashing or steady on on the dash while you trying to start it ?
3- are you getting fuel ? ( fuel pressure test) Can you hear pump running when you cycle the switch from off to on , it should prime the fuel rail
4- are you getting spark ? ( ignition test ) you can pull a spark plug and see if you firing
5- have all the fuse been checked , inside & outside the car , I will do that first ?
I have included a diagram location of the inertia switch you asked for , it shows it on passenger side
it is will be odd if the inertia switch is bad 2 days post the accident i agree, but that is the location for it to check
