Customer Question

2001 S-Type AC has been serviced and checked for leaks; the air is not getting cold and the air vents will not redirect the air from the dash vents to both under dash and dash vents; now the red indicator light does not come on when the AC button or the air recirculating button is pushed. How big a job it to get to the air duct flaps and operating mechanism. Thanks WG

Hi there. Welcome to our site.

To save time and effort diagnosing and repairing the symptoms you describe, it would be best if the work was performed by a qualified technician using a dedicated scan tool. The system consists of many electronic controls, sensors and actuators that are very expensive and delicate and can easily be damaged by non-experienced hands.

Having said all that, there are two ways to go about diagnosing the system; one is using a capable scan tool, the other way is to check individual signal values with either a high-end multimeter capable of reading frequency (Hz), or a lab scope - I can help you with either or all. How would you like to proceed?
