Seems to be worse when I right
Hello and welcome to justanswer.com
Does the engine start to hesitate and lack power? Does the engine ever stall? Any warning lights or messages come on?
Customer
It hesitates horribly. Rarely stalls but won't drive mire then a mile an hour. I can stop and let it set for a couple minutes and it will clear and drive up to about 40 mph. If it sets for a couple hours it will drive normally for a bit until I turn left aND it's starts acting like its starved for fuel.
Customer
To clarify if I turn hard left it gets worse. If I turn right it clears up this doesn't happen every time but enough to notice it's effect.
Ok it sounds like we have a problem with the in tank fuel pump. Unfortunately the tank will need to be removed to replace the pump so it is not a quick job. If the issue is worse when the level is low then I suspet an issue with the fuel pump.
Customer
Before dropping tank and pulling pump can it be tested? Is there a fuel module outside the tank
The way to test it would be to install a fuel pressure gauge to the injector rail and look to see if pressure is present when the problem occurs. The fuel pressure sensor can also be monitored with a compatible scan tool. There is a fuel pump driver module out side the tank under the driver rear seat but I rarely see issues with it.
Customer
What should the presure be and how do you test the modual
Figure we should see between 45-55 psi. We would need to check power and ground to the pump. We can access the connector under the seat. There is a black rubber cover that is removed then the connector can be accessed. The wires are the thick red and yellow wires. We would need to put a voltmeter across these wires and we should read at least 9 volts.
Customer
Thank you I will check in a.m. ...do I have to drop muffler and drives haft to drop tank?
I only drop the intermediate pipe and then the drive shaft. Then loosen the differential to remove the tank. It is not an easy job to do without access to a lift.
