Ok this does sound like a mechanical failure inside the unit causing this especially is gear ratio fault codes are stored (P0731-P0735). In this case the unit either needs to be removed and reconditioned or replaced. Another possibility is the TCM which is the control module. Sometimes water will leak into the module causing issues or it can even be an electronic throttle problem. We will need the stored fault codes to be sure.
