Right now, the engine light is on due to a sensor being out of it's normal operating parameters. It's quite likely that the car will feel completely normal, as these parameters, or the window of normal operation can be a small one. I would suggest, if possible, having someone along the way have a cursory look at the engine area, possibly do a fluid level check. However, again, if things "feel" normal right now, I would hazard an opinion that everything will be ok until she gets home. At that point, yes I suggest bringing it into the garage so that they can interface with the engine management computer, which will then indicate the fault at hand.
