Hello and welcome to justanswer.com

Is the engine cranking strong but not starting or is it not even cranking?
Customer
Hi Richard,
The engine is not cranking.
Ok first let's check the battery. I recommend we try jump starting or charging the battery while you disconnect the negative battery terminal cable to rest the system. While in the trunk look for signs of water near the battery or in the fuse box. Look for signs of corrosion near there. Also let's make sure the inertia switch has not tripped.
Customer
Hi Richard,
Just got home from work and read your response! I went into the trunk and low and behold a big quantity of water that must have been swishing around the battery for a good week! The water must have gotten in from under the car. I used my shop vac and sucked all the water out and dried the inside as best as I could.
I did try to jump start the battery from my other vehicle but sadly my jag would not start. I am thinking that the battery (which is original to the jag) must have really gotten wet especially the leads. Presently, I have left the trunk open to get it dried out. Do you think there is a chance it will jump start once fully dried?
In great appreciation!
Andy
Lets try putting a charger in the battery. You can even remove the battery and take it to your local parts store who will test it for you at no charge. If there was alot of water it is possible the positive cable going to the trunk fuse box and mega fuse is corroded.
Customer
Hi Richard,
The battery was working fine, I took to a local garage and had it tested and it was fine. Still the Jag would not start. The garage came and took my Jag for fixing. The garage thought it may be the starter motor or one of the leads. Hopefully, this will all get fixed. I want to Thank you for your much appreciated advice.
Take care.

Yes it very well could be a faulty starter motor. I think there may be an issue from that water. Before you authorize any repairs please provide me with the shop's diagnosis and their cost estimate for the repair.
