Based on your description it does sound like a transmission problem but it can also be a programming issue. This will depend on what fault the TCM has stored. We will need the code number in the TCM. You will need to visit a Jag specialist in order to read these faults. You can also try your local parts store as they should have an OBD II scan tool you can use. If you can get me the fault codes I should be able to give you a better idea.
