Customer: I hope Richard, the Jaguar expert with whom I have had outstanding experience previously, is available.
My '01 XJR (123,650, regularly and well-maintained, supercharged) is showing on OBDII code PO121 -- Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem. The car will occasionally go into Engine Safe Failure mode, will sometimes show ABS and Trac not available and shows the amber check engine light intermittently.
I'm guessing the switch needs replaced. If so, where is it and are there cautions when replacing?

For that code it is usually the throttle position sensor which is the sensor on the right hand side of the throttle. The problem is that the sensor cannot be replaced separately from the throttle making the repair costly. Before replacing the throttle disconnect the sensor and look at the connector pins. If they are silver you should replace them with gold plated pins. Your local dealer should have them in stock. Also if you are going to replace the throttle I recommend coventrywest.com, jagbits.com, jaguarpartscenter.com, motorcarsltd.com, britishparts.com, welshent.com, or jaggraveyard.com as they all specialize in discounted Jag parts.

richard, I will accept the answer but need to know where the throttle body is located so I can look at the pins. I do not have a shop manual.
The throttle is located on the back of the engine where the air cleaner bolts to. The sensor connector you are looking for is the four pin connector opposite the cable side.
