Customer: Hi, Jag XKR 2001. Have supercharger rattle when engine cold,otherwise normal.Car has done 66000 miles so maybe time to replace.Can this job be done at home or does it need a specialist? Also noisy tappet, any ideas?

this is ofter an bad timing chain tensioner which is not something you want to tackle in your driveway , this is better left for the shop to replace,

| Tests/Procedures: | If there is noise from the front of engine, there may be damage to the secondary timing chain tensioner. The nylon shoe on the chain tensioner can come loose, causing the timing chain looseness, which can allow the chain to jump time on the cam sprocket. The camshaft being out of time will cause a misfire and low engine vacuum. |

what can be done about a noisy hydraulic tappet
well they will need to be checked or replaced , i'm not sure if you want to do that yourself it can be a tough job . but i can walk you through it if you want,
is the oil presure registering good on this car?

Yes good oil pressure.its only one tappet thats noisy so guess I can live with it.Will take it to Jaguar if it gets worse.Thanks.
yes the tappet noise can last a long time but be careful with the other noise if its a tensioner it may fall apart
