Does the noise sound like a suspension noise over bumps or a noise from the interior? Do you hear it in the front or rear?
It will really all depend on the problem. The shocks and control arms/balljoints are expensive but if you need bushings the cost will be less.

I test drove a 2001 Jaguar XK8 with the intention of buying it. 74,000 mikes on the odometer. During the test drive the front end of the car shook at all speeds and would strongly reverberate over potholes and bumps. I had the dealer lift the car to inspect the front end suspension. All joints were tight. There was no wheel play except for a slight amount in the right rear. I eliminated brake rotor warp since none was felt during breaking. The struts looked dry, but old. What would cause that? There was also a continuous ticking noise coming from the engine. Would that be an indicator of the timing chain guides needing to be replaced? … read more
