Wow I feel very sorry for you. The chain tensioners were probably noisey but they should have been able to tell if the noise was from bottom. Before I do any major engine work I make sure that the engine is in sound condition. As far payment goes it would be difficult for you to not pay anything. I think that the dealer should give some assistance if you purchase a reman or used engine. If your engine is supercharged you can install a 2000 engine. If your Jag is not supercharged then you can do the swap but you will need the engine, transmission, ECM, TCM, harness, cooler, hoses ect.
