Customer: I have a 1999 Jaguar S3 Stype V6 with 110,000 miles. The car is running fine but the "Engine Failsafe Mode" light has started to come on. Here is the recent work done at the dealership
At 106,000 I brought it in and it and Oil Pan gasket needed to be replaced . Total Cost for the repair was $1,300
At 105,000 I brought it in and it was found that the spark plugs needed to be replaced ( total charge $500) They also charged me $125 to replace the rear light bulb
At 98,000 miles I brought in and it was found the Coils 1,2,3, 4 and 6 needed to be replaced. (Total charge was $1,197)
At 97,000 I had work on the suspension as well as Coil #5 for a total cost of $2,272.
Is this normal maintenance for this car? What potential problems could this be? I have already spent $5,000 in maintenance during the past year and need this to end. Should I get rid of the car or will I continue to keep having similar charges every 2 months.

The failsafe warning message may be due to a faulty electronic throttle body or possibly a brake switch. You will need to have the fault codes read from the PCM. You will need a compatible scan tool to read these codes. Once you have the fault codes let me know what they are. The dealer or garage will be able to pull them for you. It sounds like the dealer you have been going to has not been very fair with the repair costs. If you need a throttle it's expensive. You may want to put that money into a newer vehicle.

How much would you anticipate a new throttle costing? I almost have this car paid off and would like to keep it for another couple of years if at all possible, but I can't continue going on with these types of repairs every two months or so. I've driven many vehicles in my life and have never experienced these types of repair costs at only 100K miles
The throttle is about $2000.00 from Jag. You should try jagbits.com, coventrywest.com, bba-reman.com, or jaggraveyard.com for the part you need.
