Customer: Hi, I'm Tony and owes a 1998 XJR 4.0 V8. Car has 130 000km. There is a terrable noise from the gearbox- as if the torque converter came loose. Its from start up, but if I select gear, it silence a bit. Car recently serviced at Jag dealer and oil levels good.
It feels like the main shaft split or as I said, the torque converter came loose.
Could you please advice?

The transmission in your vehicle is a Mercedes transmission that we really do not see many problems with. You should check that the torque converter to flywheel bolts are tight. I have also seen a couple of cracked flywheels causing the noise. Also make sure that it's not the engine thats noisey as a spun rear bearing will sound like a transmission noise in the bell housing.
