We have an ebook that is being registered with the copyright

Resolved Question:

We have an ebook that is being registered with the copyright office.

I heard that ebooks also have to be registered with the Library of Congress. Can you tell me how this works, why it is important to be registered with the Library of Congress, and are there any fees involved?

Thank you.

Alex Reese :

registering your work with the US Copyright office has certain legal benefits

Alex Reese :

first, it makes you eligble for statutory damages in case of a successful infringement lawsuit, which means you can get damages without having to prove actual damages

Alex Reese :

also, registration is required in order to file a lawsuit (although you could get it registered right before filing, although it could cause delay)

Alex Reese :

the cost is only around $35 per work if you do it yourself (

Thank you for your side notes on registering a copyright.

I would also like an answer on my actual question regarding the Library of Congress.
