I'm Lucy, and I'd be happy to answer your questions today.

All of the processing times depend on which field office the forms were submitted to, but you can view the status at any time on the US CIS website. They tend to update every month or so, although more recent updates have been less frequent.

If your mother's visa is going to expire soon, yes, she needs to request an extension. Otherwise, she'd be expected to leave the country between when it expires and when her new paperwork is completed. The process always takes several months, if not longer, so it's not remotely likely to be processed by the middle of this month.

If you have any questions or concerns about my response, please reply WITHOUT RATING. It's important that you are 100% satisfied with my courtesy and professionalism. Otherwise, please rate my service positively so I am paid for the time I spend answering questions. If you are on a mobile device, you may need to scroll to the right. There is no charge for follow-up questions. Thank you.
