The trunk button only works with the key ignition on. You should be able to get the seats pulled down and crawl into the trunk. Do you see the straps at the top/sides of the rear seat?

Ok. I couldn't remember from memory what the 2016 had on the inside for trunk release. That must have been older models.

You could try the following:

1. Unhook positive cable from battery,
2. Hold the trunk release button,
3. Reconnect positive cable,
4. Trunk should open.

This works on some models, but I'm not sure if it will work on the 2016:
There is a small circle cap located just level with the door handle. Remove the cap – then remove a small screw there - be careful not to drop it in the door.
Then once the screw is removed - you can then remove the lock on the door handle.
Once that is done - there is like a square plate there - you turn it counter clockwise.
This unlocks the door and gives the security system the indication the door was unlocked with the key.
This turns off the security system - then the trunk button should work.
