I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. At about 53K the fuel gauge

Customer Question

I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. At about 53K the fuel gauge began to read erratically. I would fill my tank when I had about 2 gals. remaining. Upon filling up, my fuel gauge would show the tank to be COMPLETELY EMPTY with the low fuel warning light flashing and 0 miles remaining on the mileage range indicator. Later, while driving, the range numbers would move higher then lower with the fuel level indicator moving accordingly. The "check engine light" would NOT come on so the service dept. said they could not check it with the computer. I think the problem is with the fuel sender unit. What do you say?

Hi there,

More than likely to be the fuel sender unit at fault.

The techs should be able to see this in data display.

I would remove the sender and operate it outside of the tank to see what the gauge does.

Your dealer isn't very helpful.
