2012 Hyundai Changed out a dead battery. When I connected

Customer Question

2012 Hyundai Changed out a dead battery. When I connected the neg. cable the security system engaged: ultra loud horn, headlights on, but interior lights and ignition are dead.
Tried using smart key..
1. pressed alarm button
2. Cycled lock/unlock several times
Used mechanical key to lock/unlock door.
All had no effect.

I am sorry that you have not been helped yet. I just came online and saw your question sitting unanswered.

Hopefully you have gotten it resolved by now, but if not, disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Insert the key into the ignition switch with it in on position. Wait one minute, then with key still in the on position, reconnect the negative cable to the battery. The alarm will sound for 1 minute then go off. At that point, you should be able to crank the vehicle.
