Resolved Question:

how do you change the ac drier on a 2003 santa fe. Looking at parts, it seems to be an insert not a can. Do I have to remove the condenser?

Hello and welcome to Just, Super mechanic here. About your vehicle.

  1. Remove the condenser, and then remove the bottom cap (B) from the receiver/drier tank (A).

Warning Use of an impact wrench may cause cracking on the receiver/drier tank connecting pipe to the condenser.

  1. Remove the desiccant from the receiver/drier tank using a long nose plier.
  2. Check for crumbled desiccant and clogged bottom cap filter.
  3. Apply air conditioning compressor oil along the 0-rings and threads of the new bottom cap.
  4. Insert the new desiccant into the receiver drier tank. The desiccant must be sealed in vacuum before it is exposed to air for use.
  5. Install the new bottom cap to the receiver drier tank. Tightening torque: 20 - 32 Nm (200 - 250 kgf cm, 14.5 - 18.2 ft. lbs.)
Note Always replace the desiccant and bottom cap at the same time.
