Check engine light came on my 2006 Tucson at 59k miles...brake pads)

Resolved Question:

Check engine light came on my 2006 Tucson at 59K miles. Dealer wants $330 to replace an oil control valve (they also want $600 for brake pads). Can I change it myself/have it done elsewhere cheaper? How critical is this?

Hello and thank you for using Just Answer

do you have the code that was given for the engine light?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
sorry, I don't have the code.

a lot of the times the Oil control valve gets sludge in the screen and you can clean it and put it back in

also an overdue oil change can also set the code.

I would do an oil change remove the valve and check for sludge and clean and reinstall the valve

click here to view location of the valve

the front brake pads with rotors should be no more than 350
