I just bought a new Honeywell thermostat. since I had a Honeywell that lasted me t least ten years. my question is-----I have four wires for my thermostat one red, one white, one green and, one is blue can you tell me what terminals to put them on..............

Contractor's Assistant: Just to clarify, do you think this is a larger HVAC problem, or something specific to the thermostat?

Something specific to the thersmostat

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

Yes, I am an ex electrian retired from g.m.

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

I think I know how to program the new one, I just cant figure out the wiring problem by the way the thermostat that I bought is a rth7500 series.

Welcome to Just Answer, my name is ***** ***** I will do my best to help you with your issue. If my initial response doesn’t answer your question then let me know and we can continue our conversation.

The standard color coding is red to R (jumper to Rc), white to W, green to G and blue to Y. But it's best to note how the old conections were made. If this doesn't work you'll need to go to the furnace thermostat terminal strip and check the color conections

whats with the jumper from r to rc
HVAC Technician: Rick, HVAC Supervisor replied 3 months ago

On systems that utilize one 24 volt transformer, which is the case when the AC coil is mounted on the furnace using the furnace blower for circulation, the jumper is needed to power the AC (Rc) circuit. On systems with 2 transformers, typically using a separate air handler for AC the jumper is removed.
