Since the FV sensor probably got wet it may have failed. Do you have an ohm meter?

No...do not. SErvice tech wants $150 to come diagnose, then another $150 to install part + price of part. AO Smith just said replace water heater
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
Do not want to spend $300 + part price if water heater still not work or unsafe.

AO Smith won't honor the warranty on a flooded heater. You can try resetting the gas control. Here are instructions but the sensor must be good or it won't reset
1. Manual reset is accomplished by first turning off the power to the water heater for at least 10 seconds. 2. Then, while pressing the two temperature adjustment buttons on the display, turn the switch on the gas control valve/thermostat to the on position. All the display icons will start to flash. Temporarily release both temperature adjust buttons and within 2 seconds, press both temperatures adjust buttons again until all the display icons are on steady. Release the two temperature adjust buttons. The system will clear the fault, perform a reset, and normal operation will be restored.

Tried that and still says "FV Sense"

Then you need to replace the sensor

Any idea how much sensor costs?

They cost around $60.

Hi Rick, Thanks for info. It will cost me at least $400. when I get through, and it still may not work. It is almost 7 years old,so think I should replace it.

Generally water heaters last 10-12 years so given the cost of a new one it may be worth fixing this one.
