Customer Question
Hi. I have...

Hi. I have a budarus boiler with two zones. My second floor zone works fine, but the first floor zone will not. I thought that it might be a t-stat issue since the existing one was digital and was not responding to any of the touch controls on it. I replaced it with a Honeywell heat only, non programmable t-stat and still have no response.

Contractor's Assistant: Did you double-check the thermostat's settings? And what about the filters?

T-stat settings are at the highest temperature. Have not looked at the filters but we did just have the unit serviced this summer. I will check them now.

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

I plan to make an assessment when I get into it. If it looks a little over my head I have a pro that I use regularly.

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

Question. When the t-stat is set at a temperature that should call for heat, the furnace should at the minimum respond to the call for heat correct? Currently it just sits idle. FYI it is a FHW, gas fired furnace

Do you know what a zone valve looks like? how many pumps do you have?

Ask Your Own HVAC Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
ITs only a two zone boiler. I have theee valves. Two are on the same zone, the first floor zone. ( one of the goes to a toe kick heaterin the kitchen). The other zone is the second floor. I have three valves. One has Boston labels on it. The others are Watts and Wolverine
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
They are ball valves as far as I can see. Turn them 90degrees in either way to shut off and open up.
HVAC Technician: Rick, HVAC Supervisor replied 6 months ago

Again, none of those are zone valves. Zone valves are motorized valves which will have several wire connected. Taco and Honeywell are the most common brands.

Got it. I have Grindfos and Taco valves on the first floor zone
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
The Taco goes to the toe kick heater in the kitchen.
HVAC Technician: Rick, HVAC Supervisor replied 6 months ago

Grundfos is a pump/circulator. Taco also makes pumps. It's becoming evident you aren't at all familiar with the components on the system so I can't help you diagnose something you can't identify. You're best bet is to call a pro.
