Customer Question
I have a Honeywell...

I have a Honeywell thermostat. This is what is happening, I set it for 70 for bed at night and this morning I woke up to 63 degrees. It's been doing this off and on for about a week I can go get it and tell you the model or serial number if you need that

Contractor's Assistant: Just to clarify, do you think this is a larger HVAC problem, or something specific to the thermostat?

I think it's the thermostat because when it is on, it is heating. I have it in my hands now

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

Well if I can, I have someone scheduled to come out, but I'm in the middle of moving and no telling what they will charge

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

If you turn it off then back to heat it immediately will come on. I have put new batteries in. there is a barcode with a number, do you want that?

When you wake up cold is furnace off or on ad do you have to kill power to furnace to get it to restart or just thermostat?

Ask Your Own HVAC Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
usually off. I don't know about a kill power on furnace can you tell me where that would be located?
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
no I do not wish to pay for a phone call. I've already paid for this
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

Ignore phone call offer. It is auto generated and I can not do either.

Ask Your Own HVAC Question
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

OK the reason I asked about killing power to furnace was to determine if maybe furnace was shutting off due to an open limit or pressure switch but if that were the case you would have to kill power at a breaker or switch

This tells us the thermostat IS the problem.

Give me model on thermostat

Customer reply replied 5 months ago
I turned it to 70. I push hold. Is that what you are asking?
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

Yes does HOLD show on thermostat by the 70?

Ask Your Own HVAC Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
right now the thermostat is in my hand and is saying 69 and hold
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

OK if you are pressing HOLD but it refuses to hold the thermostat may at some time have taken a power spike. You will need to replace the thermostat.

Fortunately this is not a real expensive stat so you can get a replacement for about 20 bucks

Customer reply replied 5 months ago
Dude, I am in the middle of moving from house to house I just can’t run up to Walgreens plus the furnace isn’t off. My ex says he can’t remember and to be honest with you, I am about to have a nervous breakdown. There’s got to be something in this house that will work
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

Totally understand the frustration but to replace the thermostat you have to have tools to replace it with.I am trying to help but it is not my fault that you do not have a thermostat small enough to remove the wires.

Ask Your Own HVAC Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
I’m not blaming you.
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

To replace the thermostat the only way to do so is to get a screwdriver ad loosen the wires to get them off of the old thermostat.

Please refund my money and I will call someone over here to physically do it themselves because my ex can’t seem to remember and I am not up for spending my whole day trying to do this because I need to be packing. But thanks for trying.
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

I have nothing to do with the finances ,I am an expert who answers questions and guides in troubleshooting. To spend 3 hours and 20 minutes of my time helping you and then asking for a refund because you are unable to complete the work is unfair to me, but the site does offer a satisfaction guarantee, so you may contact administrators to request a refund.Otherwise you may select the 5 star rating to reflect the excellent service I have provided you and we can close the question

Ask Your Own HVAC Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for your service. But, I am having to call someone over here because I can’t do this. I can’t spend my time running all over town looking for stuff to buy to try and do it. I could have gotten it while I was out if you had told me. Just don’t worry about it. I lost as much time as you did and I needed to be packing for my move. But you were very nice and I appreciate it.

Leaving a poor service rating will not automatically refund your money, but reflects poorly on your expert. You have to request a refund if not satisfied with the information provided being accurate.

I won’t even be living in this house in 30 days. I sold it. If the company can’t help me today it will be tomorrow.
HVAC Technician: airheatman, HVAC Technician replied 5 months ago

If you have time to grab a small screwdriver,I would go ahead and replace and be done with it. I know you are busy but a small screwdriver will cost about 3.99 and an hvac company will charge a minimum of a hundred bucks to change it for you.
