Regarding the trane wifi 950xl thermostat

Contractor's Assistant: Just to clarify, do you think this is a larger HVAC problem, or something specific to the thermostat?

Specific to thermostat just going from generic thermostat to the 950xl docs say easy peasy.. the old thermostat had white wire for call for heat

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

The 950xl just has three .. data/ R / and B

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

Verified

What is the model on the package unit?

THe 950xl is considered a 'communicating stat" The wires just allow power to stat and data transfer to communicate with a board on unit.

Your old thermostat is "Conventional" (R=power W =heat,G= fan,Y - Cool C common)

Some units have the capability of using the conventional or the communicating by using different terminals on control board.

If you can give me model on unit I can verify.

If your unit only has conventional terminals on board you will not be able to use the 950
