The screen on my...

The screen on my thermostat (Honeywell/36) reads blank in the morning. I insert new batteries and reprogram the thermostat. The new batteries last only one day and test depleted on the battery tester. The screen again reads blank.

Contractor's Assistant: Just to clarify, do you think this is a larger HVAC problem, or something specific to the thermostat?

I'm not an electrician, but I can't understand why the batteries become so rapidly depleted.

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

I installed the original thermostat myself--- several years ago--- but this may be beyond my capabilities.

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

I would say there is a thermostat issue, but to make sure you do not have some short in the wiring can you remove the R wire from the thermostat for a day and see if the batteries are dead still, if they are you have to get a new thermostat there is an internal short draining your batteries.
