Customer Question
The yellow wire on...

The yellow wire on the blower motor burnt through insulation. It appears to be 15 years old. Would it be safe to repair the yellow wire and continue to run the motor? The ground wite is hanging loose and has 65VAC when the moter is powered up.

Contractor's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?

We heard sparking noises for about a week. I took the cover off tonight abd saw the yellow wire bare spot sparking to the duct.

Contractor's Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

Yes

Contractor's Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?

No, I'm wondering if I need to but a new blower motor.

Hello,

My name is Billy.

This should not need a new motor. Repair/tape the bad wire. As long as any worn spots are covered you should be fine.

Was the yellow wire a spare not being used?

Customer reply replied 9 months ago
No, the yellow wire is 230vac common. When I moved it off the duct work, the motor no longer runs. That may have been when the wire broken completely in two. I'll repair the wire and connect the motor green/yellow ground wire to ground. It is just hanging loose.

Just keep me posted if any further questions, but the motor should be fine.
