Welcome to Just Answer, my name is ***** ***** I will do my best to help you with your issue. If my initial response doesn’t answer your question then let me know and we can continue our conversation.

Sounds like you may have a bd thermostat. Try this; turn off the power to the furnace then connect the thermostat leads that are connected to the R & W terminals together (be careful they don't touch anything else) then tuen the power back on. If the furnace responds and house heats up to more that 58 then you need a new thermostat

I don't feel comfortable doing that. are there any tricks i can do with the thermostat to 'reset' or unlock?
Expert:  Rick replied 7 months ago.

No tricks, you might be able to reset it (not that it's likely to help) if you can give me a model number I can see if the thermostat can be reset.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
where do i find the model number?
Expert:  Rick replied 7 months ago.

If you can remove the cover to the thermostat it may be inside under the cover.

the numbers i found are:

Press the Mode button. While holding the Mode button in, press the Fan button for 5 sec. All icons will appear. Press and hold in the Fan button until Fd appears. This resets all factory settings. To return to normal operation, press the Mode button twice more

tried that and '01' appeared no FD. I could toggle up to 03
Expert:  Rick replied 7 months ago.

Then there's nothing more you can do other than what I suggested initially or try changing the thermostat.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
what does that mean? I appreciate your time, but this does not help.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
what does the 01, 02, 03 mean?
Expert:  Rick replied 7 months ago.

It's a set up function toggle it back to where it started. I can only do so much from here. If you're not comfortable following my instructions then you'll need to get someone to help.
