What gives the heating coil the 240 volts
JA: Did you double-check the thermostat's settings? And what about the filters?
Customer: Filter is new thermostat comes on correctly. Does the transformer send the 240 volt to ther relay
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: I am only getting 120 volts to the heating coils

The elements usually have a sequencer that energizes them.Give me model on unit

Tell me if you have sequencers or contactors. Goodman used both

OK those are what tell elements to come on. To troubleshoot, you will start by calling for heat and see if we get 24v between to bottom terminals

OK you should have circuit breakers in unit or a power lug with two 120v lines.

One 120 volt leg goes directly to one side of heating element at all times. The other leg goes to one side if the sequencer.

On call for heat transformer sends 24v to the coil on bottom od sequencer energizing the sequencer so contacts in sequencer close and sent that other 120v leg through sequencer to the other side of element.
