We have a furnace model number 58SSC040-EC which will not

Customer Question

We have a furnace model number 58SSC040-EC which will not light. The igniter glows and the blower comes on, and I hear what I think is the gas valve, but no flame. Seems like I am hearing the gas when the igniter starts to fade, which seems odd. Any suggestions?
JA: Did you check the furnace's filters?
Customer: Looks like the filter underneath has fallen down through the opening, so essentially there is no filter right now
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: We are trying to see if it is something we can do ourselves, yes.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: That's pretty much the situation

If the igniter glows and valve clicks, either the valve is not opening or we have no gas to valve.Has been furnace been working and you are sure gas is on to furnace?
