Related to Honeywell Gas Control Valve (wv8840) -- no pilot

Customer Question

Related to Honeywell Gas Control Valve (wv8840) -- no pilot (propane)
1. pilot tube and orafice clean
2. all other appliances in house (dryer/stove/oven) work as before
3. there is gas to pilot and visible spark
4. when I take off pilot tube from valve and hold down red button, gas comes from the tube fitting on valve but it doesn't spray, I can light it with a match but gas kind of drifts out -- no pressure it seems. I can hear the gas coming out also.
Question: (a) Is it a valve problem? (b) Is there any way to clean/out or fix the valve?

I would like to know how to fix the valve.

Can you tell me in water column what the supply pressure is?

Have you removed valve to check the inlet screen?

11" W.C.
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 1 year ago.

the inlet screen is on the entering side where gas pipe i to keep pipe dope and oil from entering valve

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Is it removable and cleanable? Where would "oil" come from? Do you think that's the problem? I think that the valves don't usually fail???
Expert:  BillyHvac replied 1 year ago.

Actually this valve has had issues. They did not hold up as well as the old units. Many more of these are replaced than the previous version.

The inlet screen inlet cleanable....I do not think that is your issue, but it is a possibilty to check before replacing valve. The reason there is a drip leg or dirt leg on gas appliance piping is because of residue in gas lines...water, oil, pipe dope...that is why there is always a little drip leg before it goes into the appliance.

I just took the drip leg/input line off valve. There is no inlet screen.

What is the outlet pressure when calling for heat?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Outlet pressure where? Can't call for heat without pilot.....

I see, I understood you could light it with a match and it would stay lit. If you have 11" WC in ,pilot tube and orifice is clean, but not getting enough gas out to light pilot, the diaprahm is most likely bad in valve. This is not field repairable. Replace valve.
