Whirlpool Water Heater has shut down. Model N40T121-403.

Customer Question

Whirlpool Water Heater has shut down. Model N40T121-403. Controller showing 4 'flashes' signalling an overheat situation? Original condition showed no flashes, meaning 'pilot out'. I have, I think re-lit the pilot, but now I get the 4 flash signal. Any suggestions about what else I can try? Is there a way I can reset to start over?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you're only option is to replace the gas control valve. This is a permanent failure. If the unit is less than 6 years old it may be under warranty. If so then Whirlpool should give you a new control.
