I have a20 year old central heating unit carrier-
It only just began to play up-
1. on occasions I have to go up in the ceiling where the unit is located and have to reset the manual reset button.
The unit will start i.e. the fans but it won't purge ie the gas won't fire up.
Can you adviser me please

Hello, if you can send me a photo of the wiring diagram that is glued to the inside of the blower service door, I can mark it up with trouble shooting instructions. Its pretty technical, you will need a multi meter to do most of the tests.

Photo must be taken close up and in *very good light, and very well focused.

include a photo of the reset button you are pushing, taken from about 4 feet away so that I can see it in context.

Meantime tell me a lot about your technical skills background.

So far it sounds like a bad printed circuit board...or possibly a bad flame roll out switch.

We can go from there.
