Now..residential HVAC systems are usually 'closed' which means that the system does not bring in outside air, it simply circulates, heats and cools the air already in the house. It is basically a sealed system.So, unless you share an HVAC system with the other dwelling (unlikely), the smoke you are smelling is coming in through other places. Maybe the walls, floors or through the windows.It is not getting into your ducts.Please let me know if I can help you further.Steve
