What are some good replacements -22 refrigerant? Do they

Customer Question

What are some good replacements for R-22 refrigerant? Do they work ok for both AC and refrigeration? Do they maintain the same capacity as R-22? Is there a retrofit process? Some that I have found online are R-424a and R-422B.

There are actually a number of retrofit blends available. They will work with any medium temp system that used R22. There are different procedures required for each. The capacity will be slightly reduced in some cases and operating pressures will vary slightly but end results in temp drop will be close to the same.

Below are some procedures you may have to do:

1.Remove all R22

2.Replace metering device if using TXV

3.Replace filter drier

4.Evacuate system

5.Replace any seals such as the schrader stems in service fittings.

Once you determine what is actually available to you and you decide which you will use, we can be more specific about procedures.
