apparently the thermal shutoff turns off sometimes and then resets

Looking for a manual on the furnace. If you turn fan to ON instead of auto does that seem to help?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
did not make a difference
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

I am suspecting you may have a dirty ac coil or bad capacitor if is air is 126 at registers and not very strong. You said you have checked ducts so I don't suspect a damper or anything has got closed. About the only things this can be is dirty coil or a bad fan capacitor not allowing bower to move enough air.Do you have a meter to check microfarads on capacitor?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

have you done so? If not lets turn unit off, remove wires from capcitor and see if it is within 3% of rating marked on it.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
is there a damper on this unit
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

I do not know if there is a damper in the system. You would have to verify that on site. Did you check capacitor?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I will have to do this tomorrow. the person wants to go to bed
Expert:  airheatman replied 1 year ago.

I understand. We will go from here. Let me know what you find. Check capacitor first and then you might want to amp out motor to make sure it is within range, then check coil .Talk to you then
