I'm about to replace a old honeywell thermostat installed 60

Customer Question

hello, I'm about to replace a old honeywell thermostat installed 60 years ago with the oil furnace, no thermopump or air conditioning system added, I bought the model RTH2300B 1020, on the old device there is only one white and one black wire. My first question is the new model mentioned compatible, my second one would which wire goes where on the connecting bar, the "gas or oil" sliding bar should be on the left or right??
thank you for the help, it is much appreciated! Richard B"
