I have fireplace logs (VS30PE) which I installed 14 years

Customer Question

I have fireplace logs (VS30PE) which I installed 14 years ago. The logs will burn, but when the thermostat turns them on, there is a 3 to 7 sec. delay, producing a gas smell, before coming on with a Whoof. If I stand at the logs when the switch clicks, it often lights just a couple of inches around the pilot, and if I immediately blow on these flames, it starts. What is causing this delay?
