I have a Goodman gmh950703bxac furnace that flashes six times and when the thermostat calls for heat it blows the 5A fuse on the controller board

OK the 6 flashes is because of the blown fuse opening the control circuit. You are going to have to find what is shorted that is blowing the fuse.You may need several fuses as you may blow a few until you find the short.I can guide you in doing this if you can get some fuses and want to do yourself.
