How to program a White Rogers 1F82-261 thermostat?

That model has three different methods of HOLD or changing the set temperature temporarily (or permanently in one case).

1) If the thermostat is running its program and you just lower the temperature setpoint with the up/down buttons, it will hold that temperature setting until the next programmed period when it will revert to its program at the temperature programmed for that period.

2) If the thermostat is in HOLD and HOLD is solid and not flashing (HOLD was momentarily pressed), the thermostat will keep the set temperature displayed indefinitely until you either change the setpoint, in which case it will keep that setting indefinitely, OR you press the RUN button which will run the current programmed setpoints/times.

3) If the thermostat is in HOLD and HOLD is FLASHING (HOLD button was pressed for 5 seconds), the "temporary hold" feature has been activated and setup in the thermostat configuration settings. In that case, the thermostat will hold the set temperature for the amount of time selected in the temporary hold configuration settings. This can be changed in the configuration menu and the choices are from :15 minutes to 8:00 hours. A setting of 0:00 in that configuration setting disables the temporary hold feature all together.
