Hello. My name is ***** ***** I'll do my best to help. Let's get started and see what we can do.Do you have a multi meter for troubleshooting?. Also look on labels on both indoor and outdoor units and provide complete model numbers.

OK our first step in troubleshooting is going to be to verify if thermostat is sending 24 volts to the outdoor unit and that we have 230 volts high voltage getting to unit. You can pick up an inexpensive meter for checking voltage at Walmart or Lowes for about 15 bucks. If you want to pick one up,I will be happy to guide you step by step in troubleshooting.Otherwise we are guessing.

the outside unit is dead, nothing is turning on no fan no compressor
Expert:  airheatman replied 2 years ago.
THis may be caused by one of the following:
1. Thermostat not sending 24 volts to outdoor unit
2.Float switch in circuit breaking the 24 volt circuit to outdoor unit
3.Bad breaker or disconnect not sending 230 voltage to unit
4.Contactors defective in outdoor unit
5.Bad capacitor in outdoor unit
6.Control board or pressure switch in outdoor unit keeping unit from coming on.
The meter helps us determine which one
