I am trying to put a new Honeywell rth 7600d thermostat on

Customer Question

I am trying to put a new Honeywell rth 7600d thermostat on a 2011 vintage heat pump. There are extra wires from the previous heat pump. Do I need to worry about anything besides getting the R, O, Y, G and aux wires right?

Hi, I'm Brian. I'm here to help!
Those five wires are the crux of a heat pump thermostat wiring and the minimum necessary for a system with auxiliary heat. If you can tell me what the make and model number of your old thermostat was, what wires are extra and what terminals they were connected to on the old thermostat I can give you a much more informed answer.
Thanks, -Brian
