I have an air conditioner/ furnace that i want to give to somebody. i want to disconect it but i was told when i do if i get atmosphere air in the condenser/compressor it will ruin the unit. can i hammer the copper tubing flat and then cut the copper. what do you recommend

The other part here is what will assist the other party when reinstalling.

Are you familiar with the freon valves at the outdoor unit on the small and larger line?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

The other party would connect it as soon as he is ready to do so. yes i am familiar with those two freon valves on the outside unit. i don't know about the attic unit though

You can close the small valve and start the unit or hold the contactor in. This will suck all the freon into the outdoor unit. Usually a minute is all you need but can verify with gages,

After a minute close the large valve. Now all the freon is trapped inside the outdoor unit. Use a tubing cutteer and cur the pipes a few inches away...tape up but do not hammer closed.

Then in the indoor unit, cut the pipe a few inches away and tape those fittings.

That is all you need to do. On reinstall a vacuum and purge will be done any way.
