There is should be an air shutter(s) on the left side of the burner. Typically you loosen the screw and rotate the shutter to open it and get more air. When you look inside the chamber with the burner firing you should have a white-ish yellow flame with no sign of smoke.
I should mention that adjusting a burner by eye is not the proper way to adjust a burner. To properly adjust a burner you need expensive test equipment and some expertise.
