I have a kozy heat natural gas fireplace- the pilot is lit

Customer Question

I have a kozy heat natural gas fireplace- the pilot is lit but will not ignite into a flame- I turned the on switch on and hit the ignitor several times and it finally lit but once I shut it off again it would not light again. I tried hitting the ignitor again but it did not start- the pilot light is still burning - could the on off switch on the wall be bad- I do not have a remote or a thermostat with the fireplace?

Do you see a tan knob on the gas valve? Not the one for the pilot.

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
no just a red valve on the gas line
Expert:  Kenton Guidry replied 7 years ago.
Do you see the gas valve itself?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
yes it is red and looks like a on off valve for the gas
Expert:  Kenton Guidry replied 7 years ago.
That is not the gas valve that I am referring to.

If you have a pilot light then you will have an electromechanical gas valve.

Here is a photo of a general gas valve.

How many knobs are on it that you can turn?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
two
Expert:  Kenton Guidry replied 7 years ago.
One knob is going to be the knob for the pilot light.

The other knob should have numbers on it such as 1 through 10.

Is that correct?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
it goes from high to low but no numbers on it
Expert:  Kenton Guidry replied 7 years ago.
The knob that has high to low is your thermostat.

As long as the pilot is lit, and the pilot knob is turned to on you can turn that thermostat knob to a higher setting.

Is the pilot light lit as of now?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
yes
Expert:  Kenton Guidry replied 7 years ago.
Is the pilot light knob selected to on?

If so turn the thermostat knob to a higher setting.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
it was all the way to the high setting, I cant turn it up anymore
Expert:  Kenton Guidry replied 7 years ago.
Is the pilot light knob turned to on?

The pilot light be stay lit when the knob is turned to pilot.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
the pilot light was in the position of on- I turned it over to pilot and it stayed lighted

Do you see any wires going to the gas valve?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
yes they all are attached into the gas valve- except one green one is not hooked up to anything- the fireplace worked fine for the last two weeks and then tonight is the only time it did not work- I started up my heater in the garage yesterday and I was wondering if the gas pressure dropped because that heater is not running?
