Looking for help with water heater exhaust vent. Have a
Have a water heater in a crawl space under the house. 40000btu. Exhaust pipe has a 90 directly off the exhaust hood. 90s to an approx 12ft horizontal run along the wall. The run hits the branch side of a tee. One run of the tee was once connected to the old furnace and the other side goes into the chimney. Where the old furnace was is just open now (they never capped it). I'm assuming this open pipe needs a cap. After this is capped, is this is an acceptable and workable vent for the gasses? The pipe is only pitched upward on one section of the horizontal run. I can feel positive draft coming out of the open pipe on the tee. I'm looking to have this crawlspace sealed so that it is a condition space. So another question is, will this crawl space provide enough combustion air for the unit if the space is insulated and sealed? … read more
