Customer Question

29 yr old horse, part Arabian, sudden bleeding underneath @ penis area. Profuse but thin blood, as in tumor, etc.Horse cannot get to his feet
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How badly is the horse bleeding? When did this start?
Customer: Not profuse, but when he moves, its pretty bad. Started in last few hrs, after he was fed @ 10AM. No signs on fence etc, where he ripped something open.
JA: What's the horse's name?
Customer: Batu
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know?
Customer: Has been moving a little slower last few days. Batu could be over 30, as we took him rescue about 10 yrs ago. Farrier said one day he would just lay down in pasture, not get up.

Hi there - I'm sorry for the wait. How is Batu now?

If he is still bleeding and down, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian. Are you able to apply anything to stop the bleeding such as a towel?

Hello, Dr. Thank you for your reply. My husband was communicating with you. We put Batu down early Monday morning. I wonder if his bladder ruptured. I think it was bloody urine and was running out almost steady for hrs. I'm relieved that he isn't suffering any more. Susan

Oh dear - I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for letting me know.

Please let me know if there are any questions I can answer. But note that, without a post-mortem examination, the cause of the bleeding and inability to stand will never truly be known.
