Hi, I am Dr. Crow. It does sound like your horse is colicking. They can still pass some stool with a colic. Since it is dry, he may have an impaction or be dehydrated. I would highly recommend calling a veterinarian out right away. The vet will probably give him something for pain and pass a tube with water and oil. If this doesn't help, IV fluids may be necessary.

Ok, he has done the same thing as this morning, he is fine again. When I say his droppings are hard they are not rock hard but firmer than they should be. Do you think the eco colic has worked? He is walking around nibbling at grass and seems happy again. I have not fed him tonight and don't think I should? He does normally colic at change of season but when he does, he does not pass droppings and throws himself on the ground - he did not do that this time, when he went down he just lay flat and was quiet. I am just worried that I may be missing something? I have also decided to keep him out tonight with a blanket - thinking it may be better for him to walk around than to be in the stable?
I have no experience with eco colic, so can't advise you on that. If this is his second episode today, he is most likely colicking and has a mild impaction. Yes, moving around and not eating for 12-24 hours is best. However, a mild colic is much easier to treat than if you wait too long and he gets worse. Since he is not rolling or pawing, you could wait to see how he is in the morning, but I recommend having a vet out immediately since colic can get worse fast.

Thanks so much, I will check on him during the night and call a vet if need be in the morning.
How is your horse?
Customer
He did colic again, A vet did come through and see him yesterday but by the time he got he was walking around grazing as though nothing had happened. Yesterday afternoon, he was down again - so I did not feed him and gave him 10ml Finedyne and he was ok again.

This morning he seems down but no colic. Have given him small breakfast which he finished. I am getting the groom to syringe water down him at regular intervals. He is still passing droppings which are harder than they should be.
